Behind the investigation and crackdown was a female police officer who wouldn't let down. Meet Dr. Rashmi Karandikar, DCP Cyber Cell Mumbai Police, who played a key role in busting the gang behind the Bulli Bai app case. Karandikar has seventeen years of experience in the police force. Women and children cases have become her specialty and she is known to be entirely intolerant against abuse of any kind against them.

Here is everything you need to know about Dr. Rashmi Karandikar : 

1. Karandikar did her BSc. in Statistics, MA in Sociology and Anthropology, and her Ph.D. in Sociology.

2. She joined the Police force in 2004.

3.  She even did additional courses and certificates which include Certified Ethical Hacker(CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator(CHFI), and Diploma in Criminology and Criminal Justice -IIT Kanpur.

4. Dr. Rashmi Karandikar was in action within eight months of her joining the cybercrime branch.

5. She solved the Nigerian job fraud case in one month and recovered lakhs of rupees. Her breakthrough case was the Pradhan Mantri Yojna Loan Fraud where a fake loan was created and monitory fraud was being committed.

6. Karandkar led the team that arrested the locals carrying out Extortion and Blackmailing Frauds where about two hundred fake social media and bank accounts carrying out frauds were discovered.

7. Other than economic frauds, she solved cases that posed a social threat to society such as the prank video case where child abuse and sexual content were posted on social media platforms by a group of individuals.

8. The DCP plays an active role in spreading cybercrime awareness through social media ">channels and webinars.

9. "There is no difference between men and women. Nobody tries to push us down or highjack our opportunities. I do agree that Police is a male-dominated service but I never face any problem. You have to prove yourself in each and every sector. Because difficulties are part and parcel of your job, " said Dr. Rashmi Karandikar

10. She was a DCP at Port Zone, Mumbai police for three years and currently she is the DCP Cyber Cell Mumbai, Maharashtra Police since July 2020
